Hosting and Using a Zoom Audio Meeting

Use this guide to setup, host, and use an audio-only meeting in Zoom.

The instructions below will walk you through the process of setting up, hosting, and using an audio-only meeting in Zoom, but if you encounter any issues, please create a Helpdesk ticket for further assistance.


Joining a Zoom Audio meeting as the host:

  1. Call one of the Zoom International Dial-in Numbers:
  2. Enter your Personal Meeting ID followed by #
    • If you do not know your Personal Meeting ID, follow the steps below to Obtain your Zoom Instant Meeting details.
  3. Enter your Host Key followed by #
    • If you do not know your Host Key, follow the steps below to Obtain your Zoom Instant Meeting details.
  4. You do not need to enter a Participant ID, just press #


Joining a Zoom Audio meeting as a participant:

  1. Call one of the Zoom International Dial-in Numbers:
  2. Enter the provided Personal Meeting ID followed by #
  3. You do not need to enter a Host Key, just press #


Obtain your Zoom Instant Meeting details:

  1. Open a browser and go to https://ucdavis.zoom.us
  2. Select Sign In in the upper-right corner
  3. Enter your Zoom credentials
    • This may, or may not, match your UC Davis Computing Account credentials.
  4. Select Profile from the left menu column
  5. Click Edit to the right of your Personal Meeting ID
  6. Confirm Use Personal Meeting ID for instant meetings is checked
  7. If desired, change your Personal Meeting ID to something more memorable
  8. Click Save Changes
  9. Copy or write down your Personal Meeting ID and the meeting URL/link
    • If you are unable to change your Personal Meeting ID, you likely need a Zoom Pro license. Please create a Helpdesk ticket for further assistance.
  10. Click Show to the right of your Host Key
    • If you do not have a Host Key, you likely need a Zoom Pro license. Please create a Helpdesk ticket for further assistance.
  11. Copy or write down your Host Key
    • If you would like to change this to something more memorable, click Edit on the right
  12. Share the following items with your participants:
    • Zoom International Dial-in Numbers:
    • Personal Meeting ID
    • Meeting URL/link (so they can join the audio-only meeting on a computer if necessary)
    • Do not share your Host Key with your participants. This is only used by the host to start the meeting.
